Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Truth.
The Capital is Breached, President Trump’s Social Media is Banned, and the Chaos Continues.
January 6th, 2021 was to be a traditional day where the senate counted the electoral college votes, something that lasted around thirty minutes in past years. This was not the case in 2021. There was talk of Republican senators wanting to object to the votes; therefore, the media started their live streams to capture this monumental moment. What they captured instead was something no one could have imagined. Protesters claiming to be trump supports lined the streets in protest. This eventually leads to these so claimed Trump supporters breaching the Capital building in an effort to make themselves heard. In a tense rest of the day, an unarmed woman was shot in the head and was killed, and three others died of “medical emergencies.” While the individuals' actions were against the law, and many of them will be prosecuted, their message is strong and echoes across 39% of the country; Ted Cruz talks from the senate floor, stating that 39% of the country believes that the election was full of fraud. Due to all of this, President Trump’s social media was banned silencing the President.
Truth. We can say these people are looking for truth. Whether the truth goes in their favor or not, it can be boiled down to the pursuit of truth.
This pursuit of truth was the theme of 2020. A countless amount of misinformation was spread when it came/comes to COVID-19, the Black Lives Matter movement, The Presidental Election, our country is looking for truth. However, we are looking in the wrong place. Now President-Elect Biden (As of January 6, 2021) says that the country is in need of healing, saying, "The last four years have damaged the American system. We are a wounded people, struggling to meet the twin threats of the pandemic and the ensuing economic crisis. No doubt urgent and creative measures are required. But Americans should also step back and take stock. Scripture tells us that “there is a time to break down and a time to build up—and a time to heal,” It doesn’t matter if you agree with Joe Biden or not; he is right in a few things with this statement and wrong in some. The last four years have not damaged the American system. Yes, COVID-19 has done its damage and arguably is continuing to do so. However, this is not one person’s fault. Nevertheless, it is being blamed on one person.
Biden is talking about Ecclesiastes 3:3 when he says, “The Bible tells us that there is a time to break down and a time to build up—and a time to heal,” He butchers the delivery of this passage and fails to read beyond the third verse. If he had, he would have seen that Ecclesiastes 3:15 says
What is happening now has happened before, and what will happen in the future has happened before, because God makes the same things happen over and over again.
-Ecclesiastes 3:15
From the new President of the United States' manor, what I can gather is that he is asking the American people to rely on the “new government” he is going to build. That he works for us and will do the will of the people, this claim is already being tested as the new Democratic-controlled government is ignoring 39% of the country.
As for me, I rely on HIM, Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior, and no one else.
So how do we find truth in this climate we are living in? We look to the one thing that can be proven as true.
The idea of total truth is not a new idea. We see through history that man has continually tried to create their own truth, their own way.
“There is a way that seems right to a man,
but its end is the way to death.”-Proverbs 14:12
We are seeing this now with the new government asking for us to have total reliability on them. Now the bible does say that we need to submit to authority in Romans 13:1 - A verse that has been circulating continually.
"Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God."
Romans 13:1
Let’s look at this verse. Pauls is very direct and clear. Every authority was established by God - good leaders, bad leaders, and everything in between. Paul's instruction here, then, is not about blind nationalism or absolute obedience to men. Rather, it is a recognition that human government—in general—is a legitimate authority and that Christians cannot use their faith as an excuse for civil lawlessness. We should remember that Paul is writing this letter to Christians in Rome. The government of Rome ruled much of the known world at the time. It was led by Emperor Nero from AD 54–68. Nero is famous for his cruel and unfair treatment of Christians, among other groups. We must not assume that Paul is writing these words lightly. He was aware of the implications of his teaching.
With the rough start to 2021, we can only expect the chaos to continue while holding an optimistic view that things may calm down. We need to be fully prepared, however, that the world will not calm down and that this is our new way of life, and learn to live in it while keeping in mind Matthew 6:31-34.
31 Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
34 “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
-Matthew 6:31-34
If we live like this we truly do not need to be afraid for the Lord tells us to fear not.
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Joshua 1:9
We move forward knowing that everything is under control and that God has a plan and that we need to do what we were called to do. Share the Gospel.
Matthew 28:19
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
Matthew 24:14
And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.
Psalm 96:3
Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples!
Mark 16:15
And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.
In doing this we will secure our Eternal Life, Liberty, and Truth.
A loss of hope is not only happening it’s reasonable. However, we still have things to hold onto. We need to have faith that all things will work out for good. We need to have faith that God is in control.
We have Eternal Life,
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
-John 3:16
We have Liberty,
31 So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
-John 8:31-32
and we have Truth,
“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
-John 14:6
